Your Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Library
Everyone has an idea of just what an allergy is.
Allergies are such a matter of fact; it seems acceptable to discuss your allergies at a any gathering, even with strangers.
An allergy is an abnormal reaction by a person’s immune system against a normally innocuous substance.
A person without allergies would have no reaction to this substance, but a person who is sensitized, encounters the allergen and their body reacts by releasing chemicals which cause allergy symptoms. Just because there is a cause and effect between exposure to a substance and the development of symptoms does not always mean that a person is allergic to that substance. An allergist’s evaluation can help you overcome the following:
- Asthma
- Allergic rhinitis and reoccurring Sinus Infections.
- Over the Counter allergy medications that no longer relieve your symptoms, or make you too drowsy.
- Skin rashes (dermatitis), hives (urticaria) and/or swelling (angioedema)
- Food allergies
- Severe reaction to insect stings or bites
- The desire to “cure” allergies, asthma, reoccurring sinus conditions with immunotherapy treatments.
